SEND
“All teachers are teachers of children with special educational needs”
We use the definition for SEN and for Disability from the SEND Code of Practice (2014). This states:
SEN – A child or young person has special educational needs if he or she has a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her. A learning difficulty or disability is a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age. Special educational provision means educational or training provision that is additional to, or different from, that made generally for others of the same age in a mainstream setting in England.
Disability – Many children and young people who have SEN may have a disability under the Equality Act 2010 – that is …” a physical or mental impairment which has a long-term and substantial adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day to day activities.”
We are currently updating our policies to have one SEND policy for The Walsh Schools.

Some children will have times where they experience difficulties in one or more areas of their development. Wave Two SEN Support is offered to remove barriers to success, achieve desired outcomes and make it easier for the children to access what we offer.
WAVE THREE - SEN SUPPORT
A few children will experience ongoing and significant difficulties in one or more areas of their development. Wave Three SEN Support is offered to children with statements of special educational needs or Education and Health Care Plans as they require something additional to and/or different from our usual provision.

Comments, compliments and complaints
We welcome feedback regarding any of our school SEND documentation. Please direct this to the SENCo. If a parent/carer has questions or concerns about the school’s provision for a child with SEN he/she should first speak to the class teacher, then to the SENCo or the Head Teacher as appropriate. If it is necessary to pursue a complaint more formally, it will be referred to the Chair of the Local Committee.
